Charnwood Stoves

Exceptional wood and multi-fuel stoves in the New Forest, Southampton & Bournemouth area

If there’s such a thing as a blue blood British stove company, Charnwood is it.

AJ Wells, the manufacturer, was founded in 1972 and remains a family-run business. Their first stove – the Beacon – rolled off the production line in 1974.

They still produce all their stoves on the Isle of Wight, just across the water from us in the New Forest (Local note: Islanders like to call mainland UK ‘the north island’.)

Stoves

Over the years, new models have been added, building an impressive line-up of contemporary and more traditional looking models, from the ubiquitous and humble Country 4 to the ever-popular C-series to the magnificently modern Bay BX and Arc stoves. Charnwood has grown into one of the country’s best-loved stove brands, and have won prestigious awards for the successful export of their stoves all over the globe. Last year saw the introduction of the Regency-inspired Cranmore woodburner, based on the template of their previous Aire range, and now available in the same three sizes, and new for 2022 is a beautiful cook-stove - the Haven - available from this autumn.

With the advent of Ecodesign in January, Charnwood have slimmed down their offering, but there is still be an extensive range of woodburning and multi-fuel models in single- and double-door variants as well as their brilliant flue-boiler options. Testament to their design excellence, nearly all Charnwood stoves hit the outstanding clearSkies Level 5, which significantly exceeds Ecodesign requirements.

Charnwood pride themselves not only on the quality and durability of their stoves, but on their customer service, which is second-to-none. All this springs from a deep ethical, faith-based commitment.

All Charnwood stoves come with a ten year guarantee and an unusual no-quibble one-year warranty on ‘consumables’ – the breakable parts of a stove that most manufacturers are understandably wary of replacing free-of-charge. Charnwood offer a 48-hours spares policy, such is their desire to ensure their customers can stay reliably warm all year-round.

The Future

Charnwood have been highly innovative in meeting and exceeding Ecodesign criteria with their proprietary BLU technology, and are continuing to break new ground with technology designed to allow a lit stove to self-regulate for optimal performance (the prototype is due to debut on he American market early next year). Their consistently ambitious R&D department continues to come up with ingenious solutions to thorny problems like the flue boiler system, and we’re always looking forward to seeing what they come up with next.
